Visiting Programs

Located 18 miles west of Port-au-Prince, the quiet town of Leogane serves the Haiti Program’s headquarters; our activities are coordinated with the local Hopital Sainte Croix. We also operate a nearby home, Residence Filariose (RF), which serves as a learning center for guests—well removed from recent political unrest. RF provides an environment to rest, reflect, and re-energize, making it an ideal location for professionals to study vector-borne diseases. In addition to 16 bedrooms for up to 28 guests and 12 baths, RF also a hospitality room, fully staffed and stocked kitchen, conference room, offices, and indoor and outdoor recreational space. Additional services include 24-hour security guards, an in-house food service, and private transportation.

Dr. Emil T. Hofman, Chemistry professor emeritus at the University of Notre Dame and longtime advocate for the Haiti Program, is sponsoring a series of weeklong visits to Haiti for physicians and other Notre Dame alumni. The benefits of seeing firsthand our medical work in the challenging context of such a poor country are immeasurable.
