Notre Dame
By helping to address this problem in Haiti, Notre Dame provides hope and relief to the Haitian people while living out its mission to “cultivate in its students not only an appreciation for the great achievements of human beings but also a disciplined sensibility to the poverty, injustice, and oppression that burden the lives of so many.”
These efforts leverage Notre Dame’s activities across many disciplines, “opting for the poor” of Haiti, and putting “research at the service of humanity,” a theme of Dr. Joseph Marino, Dean of the Notre Dame College of Science, cites as distinctive to the University’s mission.
While the roots of the Haiti Program lie in the fight against LF, the challenges of Haiti demand a diverse yet integrated approach for any public health intervention program. This philosophy has lead to collaborative efforts in Haiti with the following colleges and departments at Notre Dame: Mendoza College of Business, Executive Education, Gigot Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, Civil Engineering, Art, Art History & Design, Anthropology, School of Architecture, Student International Business Council, Holy Cross Associates, Law, Divinity, and the Center of Global Health & Infectious Diseases the Biological Sciences Department.
