Haiti LF work captures interest of South Florida mayor

The University of Notre Dame Haiti Program’s (UNDHP) clinic partner in Leogane, Haiti, the International Lymphedema and Wound Training Institute Medical Missions Inc. (ILWTI MM), is pleased to announce that Notre Dame alumnus Dr. John Macdonald and Dr. Heather Hettrick of Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) College of Osteopathic Medicine faculty met with the Mayor of North Miami, Dr. Smith Joseph, on April 2, 2015.  Dr. Joseph is a graduate of NSU, where he received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree.  Dr. Joseph is originally from Haiti and is very involved with the large Haitian community in South Florida.

Dr. Joseph was very receptive upon hearing about the joint efforts of NSU and Notre Dame to eradicate and manage the morbidity of Lymphatic Filariasis.  He stated he was eager and excited to join the team, and will assist our efforts to the best of his ability through his vast network as Mayor of North Miami.  ILWTI MM and the UNDHP were honored by Dr. Joseph’s interest and enthusiasm in supporting the important work occurring in Haiti.
